On Friday 27 January, parents, staff and friends celebrated Burns Night with a traditional Scottish supper and ceilidh.
On arrival guests were greeted by a welcome glass of fizz and fabulous bagpipe music, played by the Pipe Sergeant of the City of London Pipe Band.
Following the Selkirk grace read by Father Gerry, guests enjoyed Cullen skink in the Stephens Room, before the haggis was piped in and addressed by Dr Whitehead with the traditional ode. Whilst the cranachan was served, those taking part in the whisky challenge had their taste buds tested on 5 single malt whiskies, and everyone enjoyed listening to parent Kevin Smith sing two rousing Gaelic songs.
The night continued with a traditional ceilidh in the Goddard Room with the fabulous KingFolk band and Scottish cheeses served in Mater Hall. Simon, the band’s caller, patiently explained the steps of each Scottish reel ensuring everyone could enjoy joining in.
It was a fantastic fun filled evening of tartan, Scottish music, catering, and dancing, to celebrate the anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth.
