Friday 3 September saw all students – new and returning – involved in House Festival, Woldingham’s traditional start-of-the-year extravaganza of drama, song and dance and a great way to welcome and get to know new House members.
With only a matter of hours to put a show together, members of Barat, Digby, Duchesne and Stuart, from Year 7 to Upper Sixth, worked hard learning lines, song lyrics and choreography, and making costumes for the ever-popular ‘Year 7 fashion show’.
The resulting performances, masterminded by the House Captains, were impressive. If there were nerves about taking to Woldingham’s impressive stage for the first time – or for the first time in a long time – they were well hidden and no doubt lessened by an appreciative and supportive audience of students from other Houses and staff.
Honours were pretty even in the competitive aspect of House Festival, as judged by the School Leadership Team, with Barat winning ‘best storyline’, Stuart ‘best song’, Duchesne ‘best fashion show’ and Digby ‘best dance’. Digby House was named House Festival winner, though there’s a strong case to be made that community spirit won the day.
