No Shrove Tuesday at Woldingham would be complete without the annual House Pancake Race, so at lunchtime on March 1 the school community gathered outside Marden for this much-loved tradition.
Race starter Dr Whitehead set the Year 7 runners off on a fast circuit around Marden lawn (first tossing their pancakes three times) before handing their pancake and House-coloured frying pan to their Year 8 team mates to repeat the process. And so things continued – to deafening shouts of encouragement - through the year groups to Upper Sixth before staff House members brought pan and pancake home. This year, Head of Barat House Mr Allberry took the chequered flag, just ahead of Mr Outram, representing Stuart.
It would have been unwise to taste the frying pan contents that reached the finish line, however, all 32 racers deserved a pancake or two after their efforts.
