Although disappointed that rain stopped play for our planned Sports Day last Wednesday, we were very pleased to be able to reschedule for students on Friday 1 July. Despite the lack of parent guests, the atmosphere was superb. It was clear each House was up for the challenge, as members joyfully and noisily processed to Top Pitches, led by their newly-appointed House Captains.
Sports Day sees the competition for the House Athletics Cup, as well as the Victrix Ludorum for individual athletes. Having held the Cup since 2016, Duchesne got off to a great start as Chloe in Year 7 won the first event of the morning, the 70m hurdles. The display on the track was awesome, especially from Jessica in Year 10 who broke the school’s 100m record for the first time in seven years with a superb time of 12.26s. The field events were well contested too, with everyone’s performance supported with lots of enthusiasm and cheering.
The Victrix Ludorum was hotly contested, with the award going to Jessica, Year 10 (Duchesne), ahead of Keira, Year 10 (Digby), with Barat House Captain Lelia in third place.
Congratulations to Stuart House on finally toppling Duchesne to take the House Athletics Cup. We’re already looking forward to a rematch next year.
