Woldingham's charity Golf Day recently took place at the prestigious Tandridge Golf Club, a venue with much to celebrate this year. Marking its centenary, Tandridge had the honour of hosting the Clutch Tour, ensuring that the course was in impeccable condition. However, the tournament-ready setup also meant some challenging pin positions awaited the participants.

Among the highlights of the day was Laurence's exceptional performance. Known for her fluid, powerful swing, Laurence delivered a spectacular drive on the 5th hole, threading her ball expertly through the bunkers on this notoriously difficult fairway. Her control and precision set a high standard for the day's play.

Equally impressive was Barbara, who returned to the greens in remarkable form after recovering from two broken arms. Her incredible driving and fairway wood shots showcased her resilience and skill, inspiring everyone present. Barbara’s performance was a testament to her dedication and passion for the sport.

Robert, who had the advantage of having played the course just two weeks prior, demonstrated masterful course management throughout the day. His familiarity with Tandridge's nuances was evident, particularly on the 17th hole. With a powerful drive straight down the fairway, he set himself up perfectly for a simple 50-yard wedge shot onto the challenging green. His consistent play and strategic approach earned him the coveted trophy: a 3D printed replica of the British Open Claret Jug, now a proud centrepiece in his collection.

Ben also made waves with a late surge in his game. His precise approach play on the back nine culminated in an incredible par on the flagship 14th hole, the most challenging hole on the course. Ben's bold decision on the 16th hole paid off spectacularly, driving the green on the par 4 and securing a birdie. His performance added a thrilling element to the competition, showcasing his strategic risk-taking abilities.

Some fun was had on the way round the 18, with all players donating for each shot finding its way into the sand (camels), trees (birds) and especially for the dreaded 3-putts (snakes), this was a highly comical way to raise some more money for a really great and life-altering cause.

After a day of light-hearted competition and camaraderie under beautiful weather, participants felt a profound sense of accomplishment. The challenging course was met with skill and determination, making the day's successes all the more satisfying. This sense of achievement was celebrated with a hearty carvery, offering a delectable array of lamb, pork, and beef, complemented by an extensive dessert selection. Highlights included profiteroles and the signature Tandridge Pudding, as well as an impressive cheese board that rounded off the meal perfectly.

Woldingham's charity Golf Day was not only a showcase of golfing prowess but also a testament to the spirit of community and resilience among its participants. The event was a resounding success, leaving everyone eagerly anticipating next year's competition.
